Honors in Government and International Politics

Qualified students majoring in government and international politics may pursue advanced work leading to graduation with honors from the Schar School of Policy and Government. Those highly qualified students selected for the honors program participate in a two-course sequence, GOVT 491 and 496. To graduate with honors in government and international politics, students must complete these courses with a GPA of at least 3.5.

Application Process

Students who meet specific academic qualifications are invited to apply to the honors program in the middle of the spring term of their junior year. Those selected students are provided an application by the undergraduate program administrator and, as part of the application process, must provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the department of Public and International Affairs, as well as a writing sample. Final decisions are made by the Honors’ program director in conjunction with a faculty committee.
