Undergraduate Funding

Incoming undergraduate students at the Schar School are eligible for the Schar Scholars Program, in addition to the wide range of financial aid offered by George Mason University—such as grants, scholarships, loans, or work-study employment.

Schar Scholars Program

The Schar Scholars program provides financial assistance to freshman who are interested in government, political science, international relations, public policy, pre-law, and public administration:

  • Scholarships are between $1,000-$3,000 per year for four years.
  • Schar Scholars are invited to be a part of the Schar School first-year residential learning community, the Democracy Lab. As part of the Democracy Lab, Schar Scholars engage in tailored programming and build community with fellow students and faculty.
  • Schar Scholars who remain in good standing and who enroll in at least two Schar School classes each academic year (fall and/or spring terms) are eligible for renewal.

Schar Scholars funding is based upon a mix of merit and financial need.
